Questions and Feedback From You, Dear Readers

2010 April 14
by Grace Boyle

Oh hello! So Small Hands, Big Ideas has been in commission since August 2008 and in these (almost two) years this blog got me my job, introduced me to so many amazing, inspiring people and has taught me so much.

I’m an advocate of listening and often, readers e-mail me personally or we communicate in the comments – but this time around, I want to candidly ask each of you about what you’re reading right here. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, so here it goes.

In the comments below, offer the following about the bloggity blog:

  • Feedback
  • What you dislike
  • What you love
  • What you want to see more of
  • Changes
  • Updates
  • Suggestions

The list goes on. I warmly welcome your feedback and truly appreciate anything you say or think. Not to mention, I’m sure this will generate new blogging content and spark some great conversation. So in advance, thank you, thank you – with a kiss and a dimple from me! You know I love you, right?

To prove it, I will use Random.org to generate a winner from within the comments and send a special “Boulder mixed bag, medley,” (I just made that up, I  like how it sounds). That’s right, all yummy things Boulder with a personalized note from me (I’m a foodie and known to be a really good gift-giver, so look out).

A week from Friday (on the 23rd) I will announce the winner! You must leave a comment and let me know what you really think, to be part of the giveaway.

So have at it. Let it be heard and thanks for reading, your ideas, for being here, for being my friend, for listening and contributing. Seriously.

Love, Grace

PS. See, I cook. I like food, a lot. Maybe you will even get a surprise visit from me with a home cooked, Italian meal ;)

Ahh Grace… I feel like I already give you feedback all the time anyway. And don't think I'm tempted by goodies! Well okay I kinda am.

I've mentioned it before, but I love when you strike a balance between other people's thoughts and Grace thoughts. Ultimately I come here for Grace thoughts but it's cool seeing other opinions sprinkled in also.

I would like to challenge you to step outside your comfort zone of “the typical Grace post” because I think your thoughts are interesting in general and you could do a lot of different types of posts. For instance you have a very specific type of post that you hit out of the park, typically lifestyle and empowerment type posts. If you were to give us some commentary on, say, your take on another major social media personality, or the tack a particular company is taking, what would that be like? I'd be interested to hear that.

Anyway keep it up… and as always your music choices rock haha

Feedback – Like a breath of cold Colorado air, your blog always has a fresh perspective on topics I often find myself wondering about…you just beat me to the punch by writing about them before I do. And then there are times you put stuff out there that I never gave thought to and I’m so intrigued by it! I like people that make me think, especially when it takes my thinking in a whole new direction. So thank you for that. In short, I don’t think your small hands could do wrong. They write AND they cook! That’s a win-win in my book. But if the day comes that I find something I could criticize you on, I’ll let you know, because I’m brutally honest like that and you love it! ;)

What you dislike – Frowns, because they hide dimples.

    What you love – Dimples.

What you want to see more of – Your dimples.

Changes – Add an extra dimple?

Updates – None. Dimples never go out of style.

Suggestions – Stop writing so much good shit for me to read. Seriously, I can't keep up in my Google Reader! Although that's not your fault, it's mine. I get slacky on keeping up with blogs (including my own). Speaking of which, maybe you could Guest Post for me sometimes? You know, because I’m feeling verbally constipated and the easy remedy is asking other people to write for me.

Feedback – I LOVE that photo of you from the moment I saw it on Facebook, haha.

Umm.. what else. I think you're a really talented writer and while I love the Grace style, it would be great for you to delve into more topics – I love your posts that are really well thought out and would enjoy seeing more of those.

I think you're really strong at making your personal life extremely interesting and valuable to others, so keep up with that! I'd also love to hear more about your work life – I know your extremely driven and motivated and it would be great and beneficial for me to learn how you go about things and your viewpoint.

I guess that's all. Also, please don't stop. You're definitely in my top five favorite bloggers and I would hate it if you stopped writing.

    Grace :)

I can't even remember how we met, or how I stumbled upon your blog, around this time last year. It all seemed so long ago and it felt both of us have grown a lot since then.

I went back to my Google reader and browse through what you've posted over the past year. Here's how I feel:

I love all your posts on living life to the fullest, taking risks, appreciating imperfection, and acting on inspiration. You understand what really matters to you, walk the talk, then genuinely share them with the world.

What I'd like to see more of would be you sharing your vision of the person you want to see yourself becoming, or the purpose you talked about we all need to have in life.

Also, you've written a lot about your motivation behind moving to Boulder and the new life you have built since then – I love all those stories.. And in the near future, I am looking forward to hear what's next for Grace…where you see yourself in a year..or..15 years… and why?

That's it for now. Thank you for asking, and yes, don't stop writing.

@Royce You ARE tempted by goodies :)

I really like your feedback (here on the blog and when we bug each other and chat) so thank you.

I'm all about a good challenge and definitely agree with you here. Commentary seems like a good challenge – I'm on it. Thank you so much, Royce :)

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@David You just made me smile, you should have seen the dimples.

Thank you for all your sweet and supportive words – objectively, it's so fulfilling to hear from a reader and friend what they think about your dimples and writing :) You know I'm intuitive, right?

And I would be happy to guest post for you anytime, you just let me know.

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@Ruby Wow, I really love your feedback. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts and ideas!

-Vision of the person you see myself becoming (a year, 15 years, etc.) is a great idea!

Thank you, expect more around this from me.

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

    @Rebecca Aw, thank you :)

As we already talked about via e-mail, I really agree with you on writing more about my career, current job, aspirations, etc. There is SO much there and I have barely scratched the surface. This will be a great challenge for me and thanks for the little push.

Thank you again for your kind words. It's so fulfilling to hear and made me smile!

Hello, Grace! I'm very new here and I love to read blogs that are about life (because they help me get inspired through my life) I find your blog teeming with your personality all over it. :D I'm so thankful that I found your blogsite :)

The way I see it, everything's near to perfect.

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@Jerome Thanks! It's so great to have you 'round these parts :) Thanks for stopping by and your kind words. If you ever think of any feedback or want to just say hello, feel free to e-mail me anytime: gracekboyle at gmail dot com

    Grace,

This is my first time visiting your blog (I saw your recent comment on Jenny Blake's blog and made my way over here), so I may not be very qualified to provide feedback.

But one thing I really like is that you seem to be very open about yourself. Within a minute or two of visiting your blog, it feels like I have a really good idea of who you are. Sometimes I visit blogs and I'm not really sure who the person is behind the blog. But I personally like feeling a connection with the person doing the writing, not just the writing itself.

I hope this helps a little!

Oh, and living in Colorado is great. I lived in the Denver area for three years in the late 90s/early 200s. Love the people, love the area.

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@Greg Thanks for stopping by (I love Jenny!)

I really appreciate your feedback and any reader (first time or years in) is definitely qualified to comment. In fact, I like your first-time synopsis, it helps me gauge what someone might think when stumbling across my blog.

Yes, the Front Range is beautiful! Nice to have you here. I look forward to more conversations, Greg.

Hey Grace – Great idea to ask for feedback, or else we wouldn't learn what we need to improve on, right?

I would just say to keep writing about things that interest you…you can always step out of your comfort zone as a few have suggested, and take a chance doing that, but I really don't have any other groundbreaking suggestions for you at all.

I envy you guys who can blog personally, for it's a skill that I have yet to even come close to master. You guys who can write what seems endlessly about loads of topics are the ones who truly make blogging what it is for me. Maybe one day I'll have time do to it, but for now, not so much.

@Ryan Thanks for your feedback and honest opinion.

I like how you mentioned to keep writing about what interests you. It's very simple, but very true. I hope to never write about something that is boring or uninteresting for me and who knows, outside of my comfort zone still might interest me, I just haven't done it yet.

I tend to find a topic that is relevant to my life, but then write about it abstractly or dumb down a basic philosophical viewpoint. It comes naturally to me and these posts I can write in less then 20 minutes and be done. It's odd how it comes.

Thanks again for sharing and also reading, Ryan. It means a lot to me :)

Feedback on small hands, big ideas? Hmm, as I have told you, I had to let this one percolate for a while at the risk of saying nothing helpful like 'you rock.' Because you do, and the blog is fantastic, but an appreciation society only verbalizes what you can see in your comments and blog traffic.

First, Friday Linky Love is awesome. It is always ridiculously diverse and helpful. Please keep it going.

Also, your personal insight posts are, in my opinion, the best of your posting styles. You manage to take a single moment and extract the universality out of it and write it beautifully so we all learn from it.

My only suggestion would be to try your small hand at different styles of posts, just for fun.

I hope the feedback was helpful :) rae

Well, you know I'm a sucker for career/job posts. Would love to see more of your thoughts digging in to those, but other than that, you know that I'm a huge fan!

And since you cook a lot, maybe a video blog of you cooking your favorite dish….?

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@Rachael Aw, there is no such thing as “not helpful,” but I so appreciate you thoughtfully taking time to offer feedback, that means so much.

Cool – love hearing Friday Linky Love. I will keep it up – luckily, I work online all week so there's never a shortage and I love giving shoutouts.

I am definitely looking to try new posts. I didn't quite realize I had a style until others all expressed the certain style I've been writing about. Thanks again Rachael!

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@Rich Oh and thanks for the kick in the butt to do this, because it had been far too long! :) Maybe you will be MY winner!

Definitely going to go with more career/job posts…that is overriding feedback I have been hearing. I'm all over it :) Haha and cooking my favorite dish, I love that, I might do something like that and definitely try to do more video.

    Thanks :)

I appreciate your honesty and candor. Smart to engage your audience, too, because well…I've found they can keep you motivated. Book recommendations, maybe? I dunno…I just always notice your posts in the feed, so keep it up. Cheers.

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.blogspot.com Grace Boyle

@Ron Thanks for your feedback – it is always great to hear from readers because sometimes, we don't even realize what we may sound like to others. Thanks for the support and for stopping by, Ron!

    Hi Grace,
I am new to your blog but I really love it so far! I am very interested in navigating the 20-something years of life and love the topics you're covering here.
    Thanks for writing!

@Stacy I really appreciate your feedback and also stopping by to comment and read. I love hearing from readers, so please feel free to e-mail me whenever even just to say hello. I'm gracekboyle at gmail dot com. Thanks again for your feedback!

Your posts cover a lot of territory–interesting and full of content. I always enjoy what and how you write. I think the few video blog entries you've made were always fresh and lively, so let's 'see' more of you. As a non 20-something, I'd love to read more about social media skills. Things you assume everyone knows but many of us baby boomers don't know. It may be covered in other people's blogs, but would love to see more on yours. Keep up the fabulous work.
    Love you!
    Mom
