Giveaway: Operation Beautiful

2010 August 11
by Grace Boyle

One day, Caitlin Boyle, scribbled a note on a Post-it: “You are beautiful!” and slapped it on a public bathroom mirror.

Stop now.

Think of the day you’re having, what would be your reaction if you stumbled into this public bathroom and read the simple message. A smile? A little laughter? Maybe warmness?

From this one Post-it Caitlin started a movement. As women do, they started to rise together; more and more Post-it’s appeared across the world spreading an uplifting and positive message to other women. So powerful! This mission and movement is called, Operation Beautiful.

I am excited to announce that I have the newest book, Operation Beautiful – Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-It Note at a Time, here for a giveaway to one reader!

The book is inspirational and filled with real stories of women from around the world, who were moved by Operation Beautiful and also, the Post-it’s from around the world that people wrote. Women put notes on the back of their racing jersey for half-marathon’s, “Keep running beautiful!” or in France, Sadie put up a note (in French and English), “Smile! Show the world how beautiful you are!” in the dessert section of a supermarket, no less!

To Enter the Giveaway: Tell me by leaving a comment below, what you would say to the public (as in, what needs to be verbalized more to women to inspire and uplift) with your very own Operation Beautiful Post-it? I will announce the winner on Monday, the 16th!

Oh and remember, you are beautiful. Inside and out. Just the way you are.

Disclaimer: I was not paid for this post. I received two books, one for a giveaway as I saw fit and one for my own collection. Opinions are those of Small Hands, Big Ideas only.

    Hello Grace!

First off, I love your blog :) You are a great source of inspiration and your words always leave me with something to think about and I really appreciate that. Thank you!

I think the thing I would most want to say to the public (aside that we are beautiful inside and out) is that, the way we treat ourselves sets a precedent for how others will treat us. So treat you kindly, with love and with great respect – if you don't, how can you expect others to?

    All my best,
    Carolina

I love Caitlin and have been reading her blog for ages now! I just participated in her “Change the Way You See” blog posts. She's an incredible woman.

That is amazing! Sarah Von, a Minneapolis blog girlfriend of mine (http://www.yesandyes.org/) does these Karma Cards (which I just bought!), and the idea is similar – leave these positive affirmations and reminders in books and tucked away in public places for people to find and hopefully remind them that they have the power. I LOVE this idea, and I would say something like – “your body is capable of more than you realize”

Awesome! My Post-it Note would read 'You are smart and you have the potential to BIG things!'

  • LostInCheeseland

    Is she related to you??

I've been a fan of this project since it started – awesome giveaway Grace!

I would say: you are strong, capable, resilient, extraordinary and loved. Put those worries aside!

It's a message I certainly need to tell myself often!

    I would write:

Be thankful for what you have. You are beautiful in many ways.

  • http://www.smallhandsbigideas.com Grace Boyle

Haha, she isn't related to me, but I was pulled to the project because of our shared last name ;)

    I would say

“Positive thoughts lead to positive actions – you can do it!”

  • Ali

    Oh, how I love this.

My note would say something along the lines of, “No more comparing yourself to others. Be you and be proud!” Something I try to remind myself of often.

I love this idea! I hear about people writing notes in library books and placing stickers that'll make you laugh in unassuming places and it makes you feel good, makes you smile. And that is exactly what this world should be about — raising each other up.

    What would I write?

    Love now.
    Worry later.

    Great giveaway, Grace! Beautiful message!

I am a nurse in the pediatric ICU. I would tell the young girls that are attempting to end their lives that they are here for a reason. They are loved by someone even if they don't think they are, their lives are full of possibilities, that God doesn't make mistakes and they are unique. Middle and high school girls, be yourself, let love happen, enjoy life and don't rush it, love yourself, your beautiful bodies. I would tell those with life threatening diseases, you are beautiful, brave, inspiring and totally amazing for fighting day after day to live!!

I have a post-it that I wrote to myself on my bathroom mirror. It says, “Be your own beautiful.” It makes me smile every day.
Hope you are well Grace it's been a while! :)

This is awesome. I've seen one of those post-its on the bathroom wall in Burlington. About 5 years ago I actually put a post-it that said “I am beautiful” on my own bathroom mirror to help me replace any negative thoughts I had instead!

  • Meagan

Just because you don't look like the girls you see in magazines, doesn't mean you're not beautiful!
