Reverb10 – The End of Reverb10, My Central Story and Next Year!

2010 December 31
by Grace Boyle

This is day thirty-one in the month long #Reverb10 that I am participating in (along with thousands of others). Each day I will be either posting here, tweeting or Tumblr-ing my answer to the prompt in order to reflect and manifest for the future. You can read all my Reverb10 posts here. TODAY is the last day!

Prompt: Core story. What central story is at the core of you, and how do you share it with the world? (Bonus: Consider your reflections from this month. Look through them to discover a thread you may not have noticed until today.) Via Molly O’Neill.

In looking back this month at all the reflecting and manifesting, it’s clear to me, my Reverb10 posts closely portray me.

I found I repeated specific experiences in more than one Reverb10 post this month, but with good reason, they told my story.

For the day 15 prompt I wrote A Polly Pocket of 2010 – the moments that I want to seal up and remember from 2010. Looking deeper, each moment represented three topical things: travel, enthusiasm and community. These are the threads to my story.

Travel: I love to spread my wings and to explore beyond what is in front of me, take risk and learn from other cultures, beliefs, cuisine and people. I received my passport before I was 1 to travel abroad (for my father’s job) and I haven’t stopped traveling since. I have my dual-Italian citizenship and also lived abroad in Italy and Costa Rica. Whether it’s just an hour up the road from me or across the world, I love to seek, wander, learn and expand through the medium of travel. Through travel, I am introspective and learn more about myself and where I fit into this crazy world. Anyone who knows me, knows this exploration, travel and introspection is a central piece to my story.

Enthusiasm: I’m not a dull person. You meet me and I’m bubbling with stories, ideas and zest. You can see I take big bites out of life and reflecting this month on Reverb10 reiterated that for me. I actually sat back one night, after another Reverb10 post was at the tip of my fingers and said, “Wow, I did so much this year and I didn’t even realize it.”

Community: I’m a networker. I have friends all over the world. I know a lot of people and I am not a loner. I appreciate friendships and cultivating a sense of community. Reverb10 showed me how many of the prompts and experiences I wrote revolved around people. I spoke about relationships, friendships, family, trips with friends and even myself. Having a community and existing within that community is immensely important to me, thus, a final thread to my story.

Reverb10 was grueling at times, but I posted every single prompt. You can see all my Reverb10 posts here.

I wanted to finish what I started and even if there were times I didn’t know the answer, I didn’t want to answer or I felt like it wasn’t quite portrayed as I had hoped, I still pressed “publish.” I am proud of that. I am also proud of what I’ve done in 2010.

Now, I’m looking forward to writing posts I have been meaning to write (my own thoughts, not prompts) and also, not posting everyday in the month. It can be tiresome, especially on weekends.

Thank you to team Reverb10 for encouraging us to dig deep, look within and look around us in wonder and joy. This exercise is wonderful for any writer/blogger.

Here’s to manifesting even more in 2011!

Congrats on completing all the prompts – I am definitely seriously impressed :) I don’t think I would’ve been able to stick to one post a day (especially not with these prompts) and I admire you for plugging away at it. And writing some truly inspiring pieces as well. Happy 2011!

Akhila, thank you. I had NO idea what the prompts would be – especially as this is the first Reverb. I just told myself that even when you may not like the prompt, it’s an exercise in writing. The entire month of December I was looking back at what I did in 2010 and looking forward for 2011. It definitely prepared me for my year and also made me feel good about what happened (that I didn’t even realize).

Thanks for the encouragement. It was tough at times ;) but I’m happy I did it. The community at large of Reverb was great. I met a lot of really interesting bloggers and traffic spiked because everyone was interested in following the hashtag and hearing what others had to say. I didn’t even expect that, but it was a great way to meet a great community of bloggers I have never even heard of :)
